Hydrodynamics & mooring

Hydrodynamic analysis and mooring engineering for floating wind platforms, FPSOs, CALM buoys, floating solar and vessels. We assess how the complete system behaves, from early concept through detailed design and life extension.

Hydrodynamic response

  • Radiation and diffraction analysis, including response amplitude operators (RAOs) and quadratic transfer functions (QTFs).
  • Vessel motions, accelerations and wave loads, with specialist CFD support for green water and damping where required.
  • Model testing support, side-by-side behaviour and offloading assessments.

Mooring systems

  • Spread and turret mooring, catenary and taut systems, with steel wire and polyester lines.
  • Coupled system response under operating, extreme and fatigue conditions.
  • Mooring line sizing, hardware selection and out-of-plane / in-plane bending fatigue.

Berthing and interfaces

  • Berthing layouts, hawser design and fender loads.
  • Quay interfaces and operational constraints for temporary and permanent arrangements.
  • Pre-lay, hook-up and mooring operation analysis.

Design through procurement

  • Design load reports and technical specifications.
  • Technical bid evaluation and package follow-up.
  • Fabrication support and factory / site acceptance testing (FAT/SAT).

Planning your engineering scope

When should mooring engineering begin?

Early concept work can compare system layouts and identify vessel, floater, anchor and seabed interfaces. We can then develop the selected arrangement through strength, fatigue and installation assessment.

What information helps define a study?

The asset or floater definition, water depth, environmental conditions, seabed information, operating requirements and available mooring data help us establish the scope and identify missing inputs.
